Mariposa’s stunning architecture and unique menu of South American-inspired cuisine delivers an entirely new fine dining experience in Sedona, Ariz. Perched atop a scenic bluff, floor-to-ceiling windows and an expansive outdoor patio deliver panoramic views of Sedona’s majestic red rocks from every table. The 6,500 square-foot restaurant serves as a reflection of Dahl’s style with a 1,000-lb door handcrafted from African and South American stone and two dramatic glass-enclosed wine vaults that house more than 600 bottles of wine, including many South American varieties. At the heart of the restaurant, Chef Dahl uses a wood-fired grill and wood-burning oven to create handmade empanadas, ceviches, grilled chorizos, fresh fish dishes, mole and house-made chimichurri sauces inspired by her travels to Argentina, Uruguay and Chile.

Meet the Chef

For more than 20 years, Chef Lisa Dahl has pioneered the culinary scene in Sedona, Arizona, as the executive chef and owner of four extraordinary restaurants in Northern Arizona’s red rock country that have earned international acclaim: Dahl & Di Luca Risorante Italiano, Cucina Rustica, Pisa Lisa, and the most buzzed-about addition, Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill. 

Dahl was the first chef to introduce fine dining to the small town of Sedona in the late ‘90s and she remains the largest restaurateur in the area with accolades spanning the culinary spectrum. She is a self-taught chef, best-selling cookbook author, and designer. She single-handedly decorated the interiors of each of her restaurants.

 She lives by her mantra, “When you cook with love, you feed the soul.” She believes that flavors should never be overworked. Food should speak for itself and only the best ingredients should prevail.

Our Story

Mariposa – Latin Inspired Grill is designed for the ultimate customer experience. The views from the patios and dining rooms could be the finest world wide. If that wasn’t enough – customers will enjoy browsing the restaurant and the grounds enjoying large scale art or star gazing in the dark Sedona night.

The cuisine is Latin Inspired, primarily from Chef Dahl’s interactions with chef’s in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. Chef Lisa Dahl and her team focus on premium ingredients and many of the herbs are grown in the herb gardens in the restaurant courtyard. All meats and seafoods come from the very best sources – such as Allen Brothers and Beelers for the meats. For years Lisa has insisted on all organic vegetables from Arizona.

The restaurant is equipped with QSC speakers and particular attention has been paid to acoustics in the dining rooms and the bar. There isn’t a bad seat in the restaurant. ~ Gusta i Frutti Della Vita – Enjoy the fruits of life!
